Travel Health

Not all travel vaccinations are available on the NHS. The practice is therefore only able to offer vaccinations which are.

It is essential however that patients seek advice regarding the wider implications of travel such as:

  • malaria
  • reducing the risk of DVTs
  • protection from illness related to food and water
  • the risks associated with sunburn
  • recognition of symptoms of illness

There are also a wider range of subjects which would be dictated by the type of holiday and the individual patient.

The practice is restricted to the time we can allocate for the Practice Nurse to offer travel advice. We would hope that patients would understand the importance of the nurse being available to see patients and offer services which are not available elsewhere.

We would therefore advise all patients travelling abroad to attend a private provider offering this service. There are a number of pharmacies locally who do. They will advise on the vaccinations required for your chosen destination and advice on the above points.

To help identify what vaccinations may be needed we can provide details of the vaccinations we hold on record for you.

Should the travel advisor recommend that you require Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Diptheria, Tetanus or Polio Vaccinations as part of your travel requirements we will be happy to arrange an appointment for these to be given at the practice as these vaccinations can be given on the NHS. We will need sight of these recommendations so please bring this information with you when attending your appointment.

The travel advisor will indicate the time frame at which these should be given in relation to your travel. We would therefore ask that you contact us to book an appointment as soon as you have this information.
